• NBT EVO: a horizontal row of large live tiles on the home screen (the iDrive 5/6 look). Each tile shows live content such as media, navigation, and phone.

2. Check the iDrive controller

• A touchpad on top of the rotary knob (you can draw letters on it with a fingertip) commonly indicates NBT or newer. CCC and CIC controllers typically do not have one.
• Button layout around the knob changed between generations as well, but the touchpad is the fastest single check.

3. Apply the factory CarPlay test

If your BMW came from the factory with Apple CarPlay, it is typically an NBT EVO car or newer.
