If you are shopping for wireless CarPlay or a backup camera for an Audi A4, the first question is not what year you drive. It is which factory system is sitting behind your dashboard screen. Two A4s from the same model year can have completely different electronics, and the kit that fits one will not fit the other.
That is the single most common reason a retrofit order goes wrong. Five minutes of checking up front saves a return.
Across the supported range, an A4 came with one of three system families. S4 and RS4 models follow the same breakdown.
These cars have the Concert or Symphony audio system and no MMI unit. In the ordering options this is the configuration described as Concert or Symphony without MMI. It is the earliest of the three and the one people most often mistake for MMI.
This is the optional MMI navigation generation. It overlaps heavily with the AMI cars above, which is exactly why the model year on its own settles nothing.
The later monitors, and the only family where a physical measurement decides the answer for you. MIB2 comes as either a 7 inch monitor or an 8.3 inch monitor, and each takes a different configuration. Screen size is the discriminator here, not the year.
Line the supported CarPlay windows up and the overlaps are obvious. The windows below are the ones that govern the CarPlay and Android Auto configurations; camera-only kits use their own slightly different windows, so confirm the system either way rather than reading one table across both.

Only 2009 and the 2017 to 2019 span narrow down to a single family on year alone. Everything from 2010 through 2016, which is most of the cars on the road, sits in an overlap where two different systems shipped side by side. A 2014 A4 might be an AMI car or an MMI 3G car. A 2016 A4 might be MMI 3G or MIB2.
This is not an Audi quirk. It is how factory infotainment works across every brand we support, and it is the same problem BMW owners face when they try to tell CIC, NBT and NBT EVO apart. The head unit decides fitment. The year is a hint, not an answer.

Once the configuration is right, the install is designed to leave the factory car intact. The Audi A4 wireless CarPlay and Android Auto kit wires in behind the existing display using the factory harnesses. It does not require cutting or splicing OEM cables, and it needs no dealer activation or coding once fitted. You keep the screen the car came with, and the factory functions stay where they were.

The same head unit logic governs cameras. The A4, S4 and RS4 OEM backup camera system puts a rear view on the factory MMI screen without a dealer visit, and a tailgate handle camera is available for a more integrated look. If you are adding both CarPlay and a camera, the CarPlay kit offers camera options alongside it, so the two can be specified together against one verified configuration instead of ordered separately and hoped into place.

On returns, the terms are stated plainly rather than buried. If we sent the wrong part or we are shipping you a replacement, the return label is on us. If you simply want your money back, you pay the return postage and we refund the product price less any discounts, less our original outbound shipping if the order shipped free. The kit carries a 1 year warranty, with extended coverage available at checkout.
Can I tell which system I have from the model year?
No. Only 2009 and the 2017 to 2019 cars narrow to a single family. Every year from 2010 through 2016 could be one of two different systems, so the head unit has to be confirmed directly.
Do I need factory navigation to add CarPlay?
No. Factory navigation is not required on a supported A4. Cars with the Concert or Symphony system and no MMI are covered by their own configuration.
Does the same kit cover S4 and RS4?
Yes. S4 and RS4 models are covered by the same kit as the A4, matched the same way by factory system rather than by badge.
What is the difference between the 7 inch and 8.3 inch MIB2 options?
They are different monitors and take different configurations, so the choice is not cosmetic. Measure the screen diagonally before ordering.
Will the install change anything about my factory system?
It is built not to. The module uses existing harnesses behind the display, requires no cutting or splicing of OEM cables, and needs no dealer activation or coding after fitting.
If you take one thing from this: confirm the system, then buy the kit. The A4 range spans three electronics eras with real overlap in the middle, and the model year cannot resolve it for you. Check whether the car has MMI, measure the screen if it is a 2016 or later, and ask us if anything is unclear. We would rather confirm the fit for free than process a return.
